The update follows attorney Stephen Ferrell’s Sunday statement that Pike remained critically ill on a ventilator and that he was unaware of her regaining consciousness or speaking. The new statement does not establish exactly when her condition changed. Pike survived the September 30 lethal injection attempt at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution after receiving two doses of pentobarbital. Her lawyers allege the drug entered surrounding tissue instead of her veins. Tennessee officials said they followed the execution protocol. Gov.
