This comes days after the Iranian Navy corvette Shahid Sayyad Shirazi was engulfed in flames near Bandar Abbas port following a US strike, according to a post from Clash Report.
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegsethon March 4 said the US forces had sunk an Iranian warship named Soleimani, a vessel named after the powerful Iranian general Qassem Soleimani who was killed in a US drone strike ordered by President Donald Trump in 2020.
“Last night, we sunk their prize ship, the Soleimani. Looks like POTUS got him twice," he said.
He was referring to the US submarine that torpedoed the IRIS Dena on the morning of March 4 in the Indian Ocean, about 19 nautical miles from the southern Sri Lankan port of Galle. Of the roughly 180 crew aboard, 87 bodies have been recovered. When the Sri Lankan Navy responded to the distress call, they found no trace of the ship, only an oil slick, empty life rafts, and sailors floating in the water.
