Two brilliant linguistic mechanisms of control were introduced in George Orwell’s dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four:

  1. Newspeak, a deliberately restricted language designed to limit the range of human thought
  2. Duckspeak, speech emptied of meaning and repeated automatically like the quacking of a duck.

Both were designed to support only the state’s politically correct messages.
