The Philadelphia Experiment: in October 1943, the Navy supposedly made the USS Eldridge vanish from the Philadelphia Navy Yard and reappear in Norfolk. I spent 20 years on submarines, so I went through the Navy's own records, the deck logs, and the letters that started it all. The Navy really did make ships "invisible" in WWII. It just wasn't the experiment you've heard about.
Real experiment gone wrong, or a sailor with a typewriter? Tell me in the comments.
