October 3, 2026 SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Burial service held for 20-year-old Haitian student who took his life in Springfield, his family says it happened after he was fitted with an ICE ankle monitor. Hundreds gathered Saturday in Springfield, Ohio, for the funeral of Pierre Damas Bel, 20. The Haitian immigrant and Wright State freshman was struck and killed Aug. 31 after he parked on the shoulder of I-70 westbound and walked into traffic. After Haitian temporary protected status ended, ICE fitted him with a GPS ankle monitor. His father said Bel felt humiliated, told him classmates called him a criminal, and called that morning saying he was not okay because of the bullying. Service was at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church. Family, friends, and officials attended. Video by Eli Hiller | Licensing @FreedomNTV [email protected]
