According to retired U.S. Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, if Iraq and Egypt coordinated their armored forces, they could easily conquer a beleaguered Israel, but they won’t because Egypt and Jordan receive billions in U.S. aid and Iraq remains too internally unstable to coordinate that kind of endeavor. He says regional leaders struggle to cooperate even when cooperation would benefit them, because it would be difficult and costly in money and casualties. The discussion then turns to the UAE reportedly warning Netanyahu about the October 7 attacks and refusing to retract that warning at Netanyahu’s behest. Wilkerson suggests Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE leader and normally a strong ally of Israel, may be having second thoughts. He also cites Oman’s foreign minister saying the real problem in the Persian Gulf is not Iran but Israel. Wilkerson believes the UAE may want Netanyahu, or Israel itself, removed from power, but warns that even if Netanyahu loses an election, his opponents share similar objectives and might only slow the devastation, perhaps giving other powers time to act.
