Turning Point USA lost the man around whom the organization had been built. Vanity Fair itself describes Charlie Kirk as the figure around whom the operation revolved and quotes people questioning whether any single successor could replicate his combination of fundraising, politics and public communication. Erika is now CEO and chair, but the larger story is not simply Erika Kirk. It is what happens to an institution when its founder suddenly disappears. Then there are the unresolved questions surrounding Charlie’s killing, security, institutional responsibility and the competing narratives that have consumed the conservative movement. Candace Owens has made those questions central to her broadcasts, while Erika and others have sharply disputed much of the resulting speculation.
