A student at a high school in Los Angeles died Wednesday after falling from the fourth story of a campus building following an altercation inside a classroom, leaving students, their families and school staff shaken. The incident was reported just before 1 p.m. at Benjamin Franklin High School in Highland Park as some students were breaking for lunch. The student, identified by classmates as a senior, fell into the school’s quad and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Los Angeles Police Department investigators are conducting a death investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall. Video circulating online appears to show some of the moments leading up to the incident. In the footage, two students can be seen fighting inside a classroom as a teacher attempts to intervene. One of the students is knocked to the floor before crawling out of the classroom. Witnesses said that the student later went over a fourth-floor railing, though exactly what led to the fall remains under investigation.
