Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, allegedly struggled with an “impotency problem” that reportedly delayed his marriage and required multiple medical visits to the United Kingdom before he was able to father a child. Diplomatic cables released through WikiLeaks have described the personal episode in the life of Khamenei, the son of Iran’s late supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as reported by theNew York Post.
"It required four visits, including a final stay lasting two months, and he eventually had a son who was named 'Ali' after the baby's grandfather," read the report. The 2008 cable said Mojtaba Khamenei married in 2004 and made several extended trips to London for medical treatment, naming the Wellington and Cromwell hospitals. “Mojtaba was expected by his family to produce children quickly, but needed a fourth visit to the UK for medical treatment,” according to the intelligence document.
Even though the claims come from leaked intelligence documents and there has been no official confirmation on the issue, they have sparked wider conversations about male reproductive health and the stigma surrounding erectile dysfunction.
