The United States of America is perhaps the only great country left whose left-wing intellectuals are ashamed of their own nationality. In left-wing circles, it is always felt that there is something slightly disgraceful in being an American and that it is a duty to snicker at every American institution, from our Christian religion to the United States Constitution.
