Joining NTD to discuss is Naya Lekht, historian of Soviet antisemitism and founder of "Stop Anti-Zionism," and David Wurmser, analyst for Middle East Affairs at the Center for Security Policy. Both panel members say accounts of the incident clearly describe a terrorist attack. Though there is no proof that Iran is behind the attack currently, the new sanctions that in effect shut down Iranian airspace have elicited threats from the IRGC. Lekht makes the point that Western society, which celebrates life, can’t understand the mindset that celebrates the downfall of non-aggressive enemies that uses its own people as weapons. Wurmser adds that the hijacked plane could have become a missile, as on 9/11, and this could be the precursor to an "October Surprise" of U.S. election interference. They agree there’s a “climate of incitement” that has created an atmosphere for terrorist attacks, even by lone wolves.
