Ishan Kishan battled a tragedy in his family on the eve of the 2026 T20 World Cup final against New Zealand, where he produced another heroic display with the bat as the Indian team created history and won the title after winning the summit clash by a massive margin of 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Kishan played a knock of 54 runs in just 25 balls as India posted a massive total of 255 on the board in the summit clash. He helped the Indian team set a world record as each of the top three scored half-centuries, something that had never happened before in an innings during the mega event's history.

In the post-match press conference, Kishan revealed his cousin sister passed away in a road accident. He dedicated the victory to her and also revealed he had a chat with Hardik Pandya, who helped him deal with the loss.

"To be honest, before the game, I lost my cousin sister yesterday in a car accident. I played well for her. I spoke to Hardik bhai, he said to put the team ahead. I dedicate this win to her, and today is Women's Day, so it makes it all the more special," said Kishan.

Kishan's father revealed that he was on his way to Ahmedabad to watch the game but was unable to due to the tragedy. He stated that both the cricketer's cousin sister and her husband passed away. However, the couple's two children managed to survive.
