India vs New Zealand, T20 World Cup, Ahmedabad:Suryakumar Yadavconsolidated his position as the best-ever T20I captain among full member nations, with a win percentage of 80.77, edging past some of the greats of the game, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni. India beat New Zealand by 96 runs to clinch their third T20 World Cup title at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. In doing so, they became the first team to defend the title, having won it in 2024, along with becoming the first country to win as hosts, and make it three - more than any other country.
Suryakumar Yadav has captained India in 52 matches, and won 42 of those, with 8 losses and two no results, taking his win percentage to 80.77. Rohit Sharma, with a win percentage of 80.65, lies second in the list. He is followed by Sarfaraz Ahmed, Mitchell Marsh and Graeme Smith.
India only lost one game in the T20 World Cup against South Africa in the Super 8 stage, and managed to stay unbeaten after that defeat, winning four in a row to complete their title defence.
Put into bat first, India scored a mammoth 255 for 5, courtesy of Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shivam Dube. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for India, returning with career-best figures of 4 for 15, and was adjudged the Player of the Match for his efforts. New Zealand were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs, with Tim Seifert fighting a lone battle by scoring 52 off 26 balls.
