As the Middle East conflict continues to disrupt global air travel, Air India on Sunday announced 78 additional flights to Europe, the United States, and neighbouring destinations between March 10 and 18, adding 17,660 seats across nine routes at a time when travel options remain severely constrained.

The airline will boost capacity to six major western destinations, London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Zurich, and New York's JFK, all operating out of Delhi. Mumbai will also see additional flights to London Heathrow. Supporting services to the Maldives and Sri Lanka have been added as well.

European routes will be operated by Boeing 787-8 aircraft, Malé and Colombo services by Airbus A320neo, and the New York flights by Boeing 777-300ER, subject to regulatory approvals.

Air India's Chief Commercial Officer Nipun Aggarwal said the airline has maintained scheduled services to Europe and North America throughout the crisis using alternative routings assessed as safe. "We are confident that passengers in need to travel to destinations in these regions will appreciate the additional options and reliability with Air India," he said.

Passengers looking to book can visit Air India's website or app for flight details and availability.

Air India Express also stated that all scheduled flights to and from Bahrain, Dammam, Doha, Kuwait, and Riyadh will remain cancelled till March 13, while Air India’s scheduled flights to and from Dammam, Doha, and Riyadh remain cancelled till March 10. Passengers on these cancelled services can rebook at no extra charge or opt for a full refund.

IndiGo too announced that it has restarted flight services to Europe and is operating from eight cities in West Asia amid the continuing United States-Israel-Iran conflict. In a post on X, the airline said it plans to restart Europe operations from 8 March, “reconnecting customers with key destinations across the region” and will “also continue to operate flights to 8 destinations in the Middle East”.

The airline also said, “Given the dynamic nature of the situation, flight schedules may change at a short notice.” Passengers have been advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

SpiceJet has also added extra flights from Dubai and Fujairah to India for March 8, covering routes to Pune, Delhi, and Mumbai.
