The Home Team looks at the dramatic decline of Quiznos as Subway expanded into a global sandwich giant. Quiznos once operated thousands of restaurants, but its U.S. footprint has since fallen to roughly 130 locations, according to current location data.
Subway passed 40,000 restaurants worldwide in August 2013 and reported more than 41,800 by May 2014. That same year, Quiznos entered Chapter 11 with roughly 2,100 restaurants worldwide and a restructuring designed to eliminate more than $400 million in debt.
Quiznos' decline became one of the restaurant industry's starkest franchise contractions. The chain once had more than 5,000 locations, but years of closures dramatically reduced its footprint while Subway continued expanding aggressively during the same period.
Quiznos hasn't disappeared completely. September 2026 location data derived from its brand locator counted 13 California stores, 12 in Washington, 11 in Nebraska and 10 in Texas. New York currently has no Quiznos locations.
