Anyone who follows me knows I’m certainly not shy about calling the police out when they get it wrong, but fair is fair, and what this video appears to show is absolutely disgusting. Officers are dealing with a chaotic street incident in which a man can be seen with serious facial injuries. Then, while they’re trying to bring the situation under control, a woman appears to walk straight up and strike an officer across the face. What did she honestly expect to happen next? A polite handshake and a lift home? She continues to resist as officers restrain, handcuff and take her to the police van. Whatever your opinion of the police, nobody should be assaulted simply for doing their job. We rightly demand accountability from officers, and that same accountability must apply to members of the public. Our streets are already out of control without people thinking they can assault police officers and then fight against being arrested.
