Singer Badshah has drawn backlash from all quarters for objectionable lyrics in his latest songTateeree. The rapper has been accused of "sexualising young school-going girls" through his words. The Haryana State Commission For Women (HSCW) slammed Badshah and summoned him. AnFIR was also filedagainst him in Haryana. Earlier today, Women’s Commission Chairperson Renu Bhatia criticised the singer, saying the body will not allow him to work until he appears before them and takes accountability. She added that someone who undermines the dignity of daughters and uses such cheap words cannot be called a 'Badshah.'
Women's Commission Chairperson Issues Fresh Warning
Talking toANI, she said, "What Badshah has done is unforgivable. Insulting the daughters of Haryana in this way and using such foul language against them is completely intolerable. We have summoned him on the March 13, and he should appear."
"If he continues to run around, we won't let him work. Especially in Haryana, the Women's Commission will not allow him to hold a single program..." added the head of Women's Commission.
She also urged others not to give him work until the public is satisfied with his explanation about why he chose to say those words. She said thatthe statement he had issuedwas not convincing and that he had failed to explain why he made those remarks. She further questioned the singer about what the lyrics of his objectionable song meant, if not the obvious degradation of women.
Bhatia also said that God has given artists the gift of music, and it should not be used with such language. Instead, she urged singers to say something meaningful that could positively influence today’s Gen Z. She pointed out that there are countless good things to say and that if one begins praising daughters, the poems would never end.
She concluded by saying that the message should reach other singers as well, as many of them make similar songs. She added that even men in other fields who use such language should treat this as a warning.
Badshah Issues Apology, Takes Down Song
Singer Badshah on Saturday apologised in a video message for his songTateeree. The song has now been taken down.
"Nothing matters more than the sentiments of the people," he said whie addressing the backlash.
