Bland, a Navy veteran honorably discharged in 2006 after a 2005 Iraq deployment, had a documented history of PTSD and depression. Her defense argued she suffered a Covid-related psychotic episode at the time of the killings. Both the defense and prosecution psychiatric experts agreed Bland met Florida's legal standard for insanity. Florida Attorney General James Meyer called for the judge's impeachment.
