A loud explosion was heard near the US Embassy in Oslo on Saturday night, prompting a huge police response to the incident. Operations managerPer-IvarIversen said officers had deployed significant resources to the area around the embassy after the incident was reported at about 01:00 local time.

Police said they were in contact with embassy officials and that no injuries had been reported. "There is currently no information about exactly what happened or who may be involved," Iversen said.

The Oslo Police District confirmed that officers were called to the area after reports of a blast. No injuries have been reported. "The police are in dialogue with the embassy and there are no reports of any injured persons," the police said in a statement, according to Reuters.

The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear and authorities said investigations were continuing. Posts on X circulated claims that the incident may have been a possible attempted attack on the embassy, although no official confirmation has been given.

Videos shared online appeared to show security personnel and law enforcement officers arriving at the scene outside the embassy. Some footage showed officials in tactical gear moving around the area and attempting to manage traffic nearby.

One officer could be seen examining the perimeter of the embassy compound while others worked to control access to surrounding roads.

Several social media users also shared accounts from residents living close to the embassy. Some said nearby houses shook following the blast and that smoke could be seen rising in the area shortly afterwards.

Residents reported hearing a loud "bang" or "explosion" before noticing a large police presence at the scene.

Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the blast.
