-An unmanned underwater United States military submarine was captured Tuesday by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy near the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian media.
The IRGC Navy announced that it seized the underwater vehicle "as a prize of war" through a complex intelligence and operational action at "dawn" on Tuesday. The move comes days after the IRGC announced that it targeted three U.S.-linked oil tankers in the Persian Gulf in response to the U.S. disabling three Iranian tankers.
"In the special grace of Almighty God, the IRGC Navy forces trapped one of the most modern, smart and unmanned submarines of the terrorist U.S. Army at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz during a complex intelligence and operational action at dawn today," the IRGC Navy said in a statement on Tuesday.
The IRGC Navy described the U.S. military submarine, added to the U.S. Navy fleet in 2025, as being equipped with some of the world's latest technology.
Images of the scene will be released "in the coming hours," the IRGC Navy said, according to Mehr News Agency, a semi-official news agency sponsored by the government of Iran.
Earlier in the week, the U.S. Central Command confirmed the attack on Iranian tankers.
"Thanks to the precision and professionalism of American service members, the M/T Kylo sank in the Gulf of Oman today and joined Iran's navy at the bottom of the sea," the U.S. CENTCOM wrote Sunday on X, adding that it "permanently disabled" M/T Downy off the coast of Iran's Kharg Island and M/T Stark 1 near Jask. Footage of the strike was shared in the post.
