Why does resistance to empire keep failing—even when millions of people oppose what empire is doing?
Maybe the problem isn’t a lack of resistance. Maybe it’s that we are divided by our own contradictions.
We stand with Gaza, but reject Iran. We oppose Western imperialism, but accept its narrative on Russia. We demand democracy from some countries while overlooking what happens when governments challenge Western control of their resources.
In this Sunday evening reflection, I look at those contradictions—and at Muammar Gaddafi, Libya, Russia, Iran and Gaza—to ask a larger question:
Can we seriously challenge empire while allowing empire to decide who our allies and enemies are?
This isn’t about agreeing with every government, every leader or every political system. It’s about understanding power, sovereignty and why movements that should have common ground so often end up divided against one another.
