Iran’s top security official Ali Larijani said that several American soldiers have been captured since the start of hostilities between Iran and the United States on February 28. He did not give details about how many soldiers were captured.
Larijani said the information about captured troops had been reported to him. In a message posted on X, he wrote, “It has been reported to me that several American soldiers have been taken prisoner. But the Americans claim that they have been killed in action. Despite their futile efforts, the truth is not something they can hide for too long.”
However, the United States military denied the claim, saying that no American troops have been taken prisoner and the statement is false, Reuters reported.
The statement came as tensions between Iran and the United States continued to escalate following a week of military confrontations.
What Did Larijani Say About US President Donald Trump?
Speaking to Iranian state television, Larijani issued a strong warning to Donald Trump over the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He accused Trump of believing he could carry out a quick operation against Iran similar to events in Venezuela. Larijani said that assumption had proven wrong.
He said, “Trump got a taste of what happened in Venezuela and liked it, thinking he could quickly do the same in Iran. Now he’s stuck.”
Larijani also warned that Iran would continue seeking retaliation. He said, “We will not leave him alone. He must pay the price for what he did. He killed our leader and martyred more than 1,000 of our people. This is not a simple matter.”
He repeated the warning again in a post on his X account, writing, “We won't leave him alone until reciprocating what he did.”
Larijani also warned neighboring countries against allowing their territory to be used for attacks on Iran. His comments came hours after Masoud Pezeshkian issued an apology to Arab neighbors amid rising tensions in the region.
