An Iranian drone strike on Saturday hit Dubai’s 23 Marina Tower skyscraper, sparking a fire, as Tehran launched a wave of missile and drone attacks in response to the US-Israeli strikes on February 28.

The strike on the residential skyscraper, located in the Dubai Marina waterfront area, produced thick smoke visible from surrounding neighbourhoods, according to reports. People shared videos of smoke rising from the building and a fire, although authorities are yet to reveal full details about the extent of the damage.

“Authorities confirm that debris resulting from a successful interception caused a minor incident on the façade of a tower in Dubai Marina. The situation has been contained. No injuries were reported," said the Dubai Media Office.

The 90-story luxury tower, which is home to wealthy expatriates, international professionals, and foreign investors, was partially evacuated as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

The attack came as the UAE Defence Ministry warned of missile and drone attacks launched from Iran amid escalating tensions in the Gulf. Loud explosions were heard in different parts of the country as air defence systems intercepted ballistic missiles, drones and loitering munitions.

The strike also happened after Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian issued an apology to neighbouring countries, saying that it will not attack countries unless they are used to attack Tehran. However, US President Donald Trump cast the apology as a surrender, prompting a warning from the Iranian forces that they would continue attacks.
