A Wiltshire man has admitted attacking an elderly stranger in the street after ‘noise in the library’ made him angry, a court heard. Mickey Johnson left his victim with a deep laceration to his forehead after pushing him to the ground in Salisbury city centre on Tuesday (1 September). The 37-year-old, of no fixed abode, approached the couple and pushed the man over despite having no previous interaction with him. The victim, aged 80, suffered a deep laceration to his forehead and pain to his hips and arms. Johnson left the scene while members of the public came to the victim’s aid, providing first aid and calling the emergency services. Detectives from South CID launched enquiries and tracked the defendant down while he was attempting to leave Salisbury. He initially refused to engage with officers during interview and answered questions with “no comment” before being presented with evidence. Johnson then admitted what he had done, claiming it was due to his mental health and that he had become frustrated because it was too loud in the library to read. He appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 2 September, where he pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
