Reports of explosions hitting the Dubai Marina area has emerged, with people sharing photos and videos of a massive blast leading to a fire in the area. Smoke was seen rising from the 23 Marina residential skyscraper in Dubai following a reported Iranian strike, though it remains unclear whether the damage was caused by a direct hit or debris from an interception.

Reacting to the incident, the Dubai Media Office said in a statement: "Authorities confirm that debris resulting from a successful interception caused a minor incident on the façade of a tower in Dubai Marina. The situation has been contained. No injuries were reported."

The United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defence said that the country's air defence systems are responding to missile and drone attacks launched from Iran, as tensions across the Gulf continue to escalate. In a statement posted on X on Saturday, the ministry said explosions heard in several parts of the country were caused by interception operations.

"The UAE's air defences are currently dealing with incoming missile and drone threats from Iran," the statement said.

It added that the sounds heard in different areas were the result of air defence systems intercepting "ballistic missiles, drones and loitering munitions".

The announcement came after residents reported loud blasts in Dubai. Meanwhile, the country's President, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said the United Arab Emirates was "in a time of war" in remarks broadcast on Abu Dhabi TV on Saturday.

Speaking a day earlier while visiting people injured in the strikes, he said the country would continue to defend itself.

"The UAE has thick skin and bitter flesh – we are no easy prey," he said. "We will carry out our duty towards our country, our people, and our residents who are also part of our family."

Iran has carried out strikes on Gulf countries since 28 February following attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel, according to reports by AFP. The situation forced the UAE to close its airspace.

The UAE is made up of seven emirates, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
