Discovery, accusing the company of using "really profoundly scary technology" to support Israel's military campaign in Gaza. Paramount retaliated by accusing the actor of invoking "antisemitic tropes," a charge Ruffalo called "appalling and fundamentally dishonest," insisting that criticizing Israel's actions and corporate complicity is "not the same as criticizing Jewish people".
Over 170 Jewish Hollywood figures subsequently signed an open letter defending Ruffalo, calling the antisemitism accusation "absurd" and part of a "smear campaign" to silence legitimate criticism. The controversy has drawn comparisons to Jimmy’s own experience of losing friends after questioning COVID vaccines, with Ruffalo's stance reflecting a broader cultural rift over speaking truth to power.
