September 2nd, 2026 DAYTON, Ohio - Wright State University students gathered in mourning Wednesday for their classmate Pierre Damas Bel, a 20-year-old Haitian immigrant and first-year honors student who died Monday morning after stepping into traffic on Interstate 70 in Clark County and being struck by a semi truck, according to investigators.
Bel was fitted with a GPS ankle monitor by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in late July, after the Supreme Court allowed the Department of Homeland Security to end Temporary Protected Status for Haitians. He arrived in Springfield in 2024 through the CBP One program.
