Flight operations remain temporarily suspended at Dubai International Airport as an Iranian drone reportedly hit its runway following an aerial interception. A video captured the exact moment when the drone hit the runway. In the video that surfaced online, it could be seen that a massive cloud of thick smoke started billowing out of the runway as soon as the drone fell on the runway.
A loud explosion was also heard by the people present at the airport. Following the incident, flight operations have temporarily been suspended, keeping in mind the safety of passengers and crew members.
“For the safety of passengers, airport staff, and airline crew, operations at Dubai International (DXB) have been temporarily suspended," the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government’s Dubai Media Office said in a social media post.
Earlier in the day, Dubai International Airport on Saturday lifted the temporary suspension of its operations hours after announcing it as the war situation in the Middle East and Gulf intensified. In a statement, Dubai authorities said that they have partially resumed operations from today, 7 March, with some flights operating out of DXB and DWC. However, the airport cautioned passengers not to travel to the airport unless they have been contacted by their airline or their flight is confirmed, as schedules continue to change.
