There’s something I see constantly online.
A man disagrees with a woman, challenges her opinion, or says something she doesn’t like, and suddenly his sexuality becomes ammunition.
“You’re gay.”
“You’re in the closet.”
“You don’t really like women.”
But there’s an uncomfortable question nobody seems to ask:
Why is being gay supposed to be an insult?
In this video, I look at a recent exchange surrounding the Lindsay Clancy case that perfectly illustrates a much larger pattern I’ve watched play out over and over again.
Because if you claim to believe in tolerance, acceptance and equality, you don’t get to turn around and use gay men as a weapon to shame, demean or silence straight men when they say something you don’t like.
You can’t have it both ways.
Sometimes people tell you exactly what they really think without even realizing they’re doing it.
