Jeffrey Sachs joins Jimmy to argue that President Trump’s tariffs, tax policies, energy policies, and sanctions have actively harmed working Americans while benefiting wealthy corporations and Trump’s political donors. Sachs says the tariff costs were effectively passed on to U.S. consumers, and he questions whether any resulting refunds will actually reach the households that paid the higher prices.
Sachs also argues that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is focused more on economic pressure against foreign countries—particularly Iran—than on addressing America’s debt, deficits, interest rates, and broader economic problems. The two conclude that the Trump administration’s aggressive economic pressure and sanctions are merely encouraging countries such as China and others to reduce their dependence on the United States and its financial system.
