Meta Platforms has agreed to pay out as much as $16.68 billion to settle state claims that it designed Facebook and Instagram to addict children, deceived consumers about the platforms’ safety, and collected personal data from children who used the platforms, according to court filings made public on Wednesday.
The Justice Department says Chinese state-backed hackers have targeted multiple sensitive U.S. government agencies. "Among the victims of QTFY computer intrusion activity are the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Federal Reserve, Department of Energy, Department of Justice, Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, and the U.S. Senate,” the Department said on Wednesday.
