On my birthday, I have one wish that matters more to me than presents, celebrations or anything else. I want justice for Charlie. Real justice. Not slogans, not political theater, not social media warfare and certainly not a predetermined conclusion simply because authorities have announced one. Justice means getting the facts right, following the evidence wherever it leads and demanding that every important question receive an answer.
A man was killed. His family lost a husband, a father, a son and a loved one. The public witnessed an event that immediately became part of the national consciousness. That alone demands a complete, transparent and credible accounting of what happened. Every piece of physical evidence should withstand scrutiny. Every forensic conclusion should be independently defensible. Every timeline should make sense. Every witness account should be examined. Every contradiction should be confronted rather than dismissed because it is inconvenient.
Justice also means protecting the rights of the accused. A criminal prosecution is not supposed to be a popularity contest. The government bears the burden of proving its case with evidence. Questions about the prosecution are not attacks on Charlie. They are part of the process designed to make certain that the right person is held responsible.
I do not want a convenient answer. I want the correct answer.
If the official case is accurate, then the evidence should demonstrate it convincingly. If evidence points somewhere else, investigators have an obligation to follow it. No institution, political organization, media outlet or government agency should be protected from legitimate scrutiny.
That is my birthday wish. Find the truth. Establish what happened. Identify who is actually responsible. Put the evidence before the public and ultimately before a court.
