The Lindsay Clancy and Travis Decker cases are both almost impossible to comprehend.
Six innocent children lost their lives, and in both cases serious questions have been raised about the mental health of the parent responsible or accused of their deaths.
But the public reaction to these two cases has been remarkably different.
In this video, I compare how mental illness, personal responsibility, compassion and accountability have been discussed in each case, and ask a difficult but necessary question:
Why does our response seem to change depending on whether the parent is a mother or a father?
This isn't about diminishing the seriousness of mental illness or deciding either case based on social-media opinion. It's about whether we are willing to apply the same standards of compassion and accountability to everyone.
Most importantly, we remember the six children whose lives were lost: Paityn, Evelyn, Olivia, Cora, Dawson and Callan.
