Indiana State Police are searching for an escapee who was reportedly last seen still wearing shackles near I-94 and Exit 22 in the Burns Harbor and Porter area of northwest Indiana.
Authorities describe the escapee as a Hispanic male wearing dark pants and a black “Scarface” T-shirt. Police are warning members of the public not to approach him and to call 911 immediately if they believe they have spotted him.
The search is taking place just south of the Indiana Dunes National Park area and has brought a heavy law enforcement response to Porter County. Chicago-area news outlets are also monitoring the developing situation as authorities search around Interstate 94, Burns Harbor, Porter and surrounding communities.
Early reports indicate the man escaped from the custody of another agency.
