But this commentary is about something larger than Jason Watson—or Donald Trump.
The American military must remain disciplined, professional, and politically neutral. When service members put on the uniform, they represent the United States—not a political party, movement, or personal agenda. That standard must apply regardless of who occupies the White House.
As a 20-year Navy submarine veteran, I explain why military personnel accept restrictions civilians do not, why officers carry an even greater responsibility, and what happens when personal politics become more important than the uniform.
Watson is entitled to due process, and pretrial confinement is not a conviction. But military standards must be enforced consistently if Americans are expected to trust the armed forces.
