Earlier this year at UFC 324, Gaethje dismantled Paddy Pimblett for five rounds and grabbed theinterim lightweight championshipfor the second time in his career.

In a recent interview with Helen Yee Sports, the 37-year-old was asked to weigh in on how he visualizes this year playing out for himself, especially after starting it on such a high note. Gaethje said:
“I hope I fight in June and get a win versus Ilia, and then we’ll see from there.”
When asked if he will hunt for a knockout against Topuria or play it safe by fighting for all five rounds and then await the judges’ decision, ‘The Highlight’ added:
“I’m always trying to knock everybody out. But I just will fight my best and hardest.”
Topuria had taken a break from fighting due to personal reasons. However, most recently, he had his problems outside theoctagonsorted out. He’s now back on track and has resumed training.
‘El Matador’ has already warned Gaethje. Right after UFC 324, the lightweight champion posted on X:
“Justin, all I can say is congratulations… and I’d like to tell you to get ready, but you’re screwed no matter what.”
