On August 20, a powerful earthquake struck southern Peru. The Geophysical Institute of Peru put the quake’s magnitude at 7.2. The tremor triggered landslides and caused some structural damage and was felt in various areas of Peru including the historic city of Cusco, which was once the capital of the sorcerous Inca Empire.
