Why does Candace Owens keep doing this?
Why continue asking questions when every question seems to bring another wave of condemnation, personal attacks, threats, professional consequences and legal warfare? Why not take the easier road, collect the paycheck, protect the brand and simply stop touching the subjects everyone else has decided are too dangerous?
Because for Candace, the controversy appears to be the point only insofar as controversy follows independence.
She has built an audience around refusing to accept that institutions, political movements, corporations, media organizations or powerful personalities deserve automatic trust. Sometimes she is right. Sometimes critics believe she is spectacularly wrong. But the essential ingredient remains the same: she is willing to go where enormous social pressure tells her not to go.
That comes with a price.
When a commentator becomes sufficiently independent, disagreement stops being merely intellectual. Critics attack motives. Friends disappear. Former allies become adversaries. Lawsuits arrive. Every mistake becomes evidence of supposed corruption while every unanswered question is dismissed as conspiracy.
So why bother?
Because the alternative is surrendering the fundamental purpose of commentary: asking the question everybody else is afraid, unwilling or financially disinclined to ask.
