Joe Kent joins the show to argue that reducing overseas military spending could free substantial resources for domestic priorities such as healthcare, infrastructure, education, and eliminating medical debt. He says an anti-war movement could unite people across the political spectrum around ending foreign wars and reducing the influence of foreign lobbies, even if participants disagree on domestic policy such as healthcare.
He and Jimmy also address the questioni of civil liberties, with Kent criticizing the prosecution of legal residents for political speech and expressing support for focusing immigration enforcement on people who entered the country illegally and committed crimes. Kent maintains that electoral reform and greater voter awareness could still overcome the influence of money and special interests in politics, while saying his prospective third party is exploring different strategies for overcoming restrictive ballot-access laws.
