Last year,Dubaiwas recognised as amongst the world's safest cities, drawing thousands of Britons who relocated there not merely for holidays, but to establish permanent residence.

However, fast forward to the present day, and the city now finds itself caught up in theMiddle East conflict. Drones and missiles have descended upon the United Arab Emirates metropolis, targeting luxury hotels and striking airports.

For British holidaymakers seeking Dubai's sunshine without the evident risks, travel expert Laura Carden-Lovell ofTransfer Travelhas identified five alternative destinations.

Speaking exclusively to us, Laura suggested four locations from around the globe – with two surprisingly close to home.

Laura said ofAgadir: "It's perfect for travellers who want to get the winter sun without the long haul flight. I think it's just under four hours from the UK.

"You still get the golden beaches, warm temperatures and relaxed seaside atmosphere. The culture over there is amazing, very colourful, very exotic, but incredibly accessible and affordable."

Flights to Agadir from London cost less than £100 with a flight time of under four hours.

DescribingLa Palmaas a "hidden gem", Laura added that it was "a bit quieter and greener but still has volcanic landscapes". She added: "You can stargaze, perfect for travellers who still want warmth and taking in nature.
