If there’s such a thing as ‘real’ repentance is there a fake kind where someone thinks they’ve punched their ticket to Heaven but still face the prospect of an eternity under the wrath of Almighty God?
That’s not really an area where you would want to be confused, right? It’s obvious there is SOME kind of false repentance, or else Scripture wouldn’t warn against false teachers coming with a false gospel. If you’re boarding the wrong plane, you won’t get to the destination you think you’re headed to.
But what about that other kind? The guy who saw some preacher breeze into town with an emotionally compelling message about getting right with God, maybe even had an alter call and a prayer at the end. But he hasn’t thought about that moment or even God for a couple of weeks or even years.
You think maybe that wasn’t the real deal? Well, duh.
This might be coming awfully close to Americans who grew up in the Bible Belt, or cultural church-ianty more generally. How do you separate the wheat from the chaff.
(Oops. Thatphrasingmay have been a little bit on the nose. But the question’s still a good one.)
Let’s ask it another way:The ‘other guy’ who lies to himself about his salvation thinks he’s ok. How do I know I’m not doing the same thing, crocodile tears or not?
Glad you asked. Because that’s just the kind of question that today’s message digs deeply into.
The PERFECT Gift For The Art Loving Warrior
Dear Fellow Warriors: My new book just dropped,GILES VOL. I: The Biblical Warrior Collection. It’s a full color coffee table compilation of my biblical paintings over the last 20yrs. As you know, I don’t depict the biblical men in this book as sweet bearded women but rough troublemakers who shook all of hell’s habitations. It’s a great gift for the male and female scrappy warriors on your Christmas list. Young kids will love it too. 70+ original paintings. 234 pages with the scriptural inspiration behind each painting. It’s a beautiful book.
