Former Marine and Green Party Senate candidate Brian McGinnis is facing a difficult recovery after suffering a broken arm during a dramatic protest at a Senate committee hearing, but he has insisted that the injury will not derail his campaign.

McGinnis' health update has become a focal point for supporters who are increasingly concerned about his wellbeing and the circumstances surrounding the injury.

Brian McGinnis, 44, was injured on 4 March 2026 while protesting during a Senate Armed Services Subcommittee hearing on Capitol Hill, drawing attention for both the message he delivered and the physical struggle that followed.

The former Marine, who is running as aGreen Party candidate for the US Senate in North Carolina, interrupted the hearing to voice opposition to US military involvement in the Middle East, shouting provocative remarks about the conflict with Iran and involvement of allies.

Capitol Police moved to remove McGinnis after he refused to stop speaking, with Republican Senator Tim Sheehy of Montana physically assisting officers in attempting to escort him from the room.

Video from the hearing given to CBS News shows McGinnis resisting removal and, during the struggle, his arm became trapped in a doorway. An audible cracking sound was captured on camera as he was pulled away, and McGinnis subsequently reported that his arm had broken.

According to a statement from Capitol Police, McGinnis 'got his own arm stuck in a door to resist our officers and force his way back into the hearing room,' and he was treated for his injuries alongside three officers who received minor treatment.

The force used to remove him has been defended bySheehy, who posted on social media that he intervened to help de‑escalatewhat he described as a chaotic situation.

Since the incident,McGinnis' campaign has issued a health updateindicating that he is focusing on recovery and rehabilitation from the broken arm, which his family has said requires a period away from headline‑grabbing appearances. The campaign shared that his priority is his wellbeing, though McGinnis himself posted on social media that he remains determined to continue his Senate run despite the injury.
