As Iran intensifies striking the Gulf nations hosting US military facilities, the President Donald Trump-led administration is dealing with discontent from allies in the region who have expressed frustration, complaining they were not given adequate time to prepare for the Iranian attacks, Associated Press reports.
In view of the coordinated US-Israeli strikes against Iran, Tehran retaliated by unleashing missile and drone attacks towards the Gulf nations.
Officials from two Gulf countries revealed their governments were disappointed with the way Washington dealt with the war. They added that the countries were not given an advance notice of the US-Israeli strikes against Iran.
The officials recalled the US had neglected their warnings that the war would yield devastating results for the region, said the report.
‘Iranian Attacks Decreased By 90%’
The White House stated President Trump is in close contact with the regional allies, adding Iranian ballistic missile attacks have decreased by 90 per cent.
“Iran’s retaliatory ballistic missile attacks have decreased by 90% because Operation Epic Fury is crushing their ability to shoot these weapons or produce more. President Trump is in close contact with all of our regional partners, and the terrorist Iranian regime’s attacks on its neighbors prove how imperative it was that President Trump eliminate this threat to our country and our allies", said White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly.
The Gulf nations — hosting US military facilities — have emerged as valuable targets for Iran. Tehran has so far targeted high-profile businesses, tourist locations, industrial areas and energy facilities, disrupting the global flow of oil.
Since the start of the war, Iran has fired at least 380 missiles and over 1,480 drones targeting the five Arab Gulf countries including the UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait, according to an AP tally. Local officials have said at least 13 people have been killed in those attacks.
Meanwhile, six US troops were killed in Kuwait on Sunday when an Iranian drone strike hit an operations center in a civilian port.
