It’s ideal for people with hardly anyone to care for them– to retire or get into an old age home once life starts dimming down– age-wise. There is absolutely nothing wrong with prioritising one’s safety andsecurity- especially during a rather sensitive stage of life. However, the same can not be said for people who choose the opposite and decide to go ‘against the wave’. The decision looks risky, and even not correct– but also inspiring and dignified. Falling into the latter category– meet a 70-year-old woman from WestBengal, who not only lives alone but is also trying her best to sustain on her own.
Deepali Ghosh, a 70-year-old, runs a tiny food corner all by herself. Her ‘food corner’ is not exactly the most lavish; on the contrary, it’s a little shop where she serves meals like rice, ‘sabzi’ and such to her rather small number of customers. The shop’s condition, along with its owner's condition, is not the best, as her shop is also her home– she sleeps at her shop. However, luckily, she was recently discovered by an influencer, who is claiming to come to her aid.
A video was shared on social media, which showed Ghosh going about her day, while the narration clarified that she has refused to go into an old-age home. Her husband allegedly passed away 30 years ago, after which she has been running her shop alone.
As soon as the clip went viral, netizens began to inquire about her, with the intention to help her out- financially, or by any other means.

“We will be giving this little shop a makeover since this is where she stays and runs her business from. Let us all come together and make this happen. So that she can have the minimum number of customers to sustain herself and the shop,” the post read.
The post was shared on Instagram by the handle ‘storiesbyaradhana’. The post was shared a day ago and pulled more than 824K views from netizens.
“At the age of 70, this elderly woman continues to support herself with dignity and hard work. She has never depended on anyone and has chosen to earn her living independently till her last breath. Truly inspiring,” a user said.
