“I have no time limits," said US President Donald Trump when asked about how long the United States war with Iran could continue.
Speaking during an interview with Time, Trump said, “I have no time limits on anything. I want to get it done."
The US President’s comments came days after he publicly stated that the war against Iran could last for at least four to five weeks. However, the observers note that such timelines could potentially change if Trump faces increasing political pressure domestically or decides his objectives have been reached.
Detailing several objectives behind the attack on Iran, Trump said, “They can’t have a nuclear weapon. That’s number one, two, and three. Number four, no ballistic missiles."
In addition to this, Trump pointed towards another aim and stated that “somebody rational and sane should be appointed to lead Iran".
The President also responded to a question about whether Americans should be concerned about retaliatory attacks in the United States. “I think they’re worried about that all the time. We think about it all the time. We plan for it. But yeah, you know, we expect some things. Like, I said, some people will die. When you go to war, some people will die."
Trump on Thursday said Tehran was reaching out to the United States about making a deal amid US and Israeli strikes on Iran, but said the request had come “a little bit late" as America now wants to “fight more than they do".
Trump stated that the American military is working closely with Israeli forces and is destroying Iran’s missiles and drone capability “every single hour".
“They [Iran] are calling; they are saying, ‘How do we make a deal?’ I said, ‘You are being a little bit late.’ Now we want to fight more than they do," Trump said.
