FLINT, MI – Police have identified the two teenage boys killed in a shooting on Monday night in Flint. Mason Lee Pritt, 16, and Dwayne Thompson, Jr., 17, were the boys shot around 11:40 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at James P. Cole Boulevard and Stewart Avenue, Michigan State Police Spl/Lt. Kim Vetter confirmed with MLive-The Flint Journal. Pritt was pronounced deceased at the scene, while Thompson Jr. was taken to the hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries. A suspect has not been arrested at this point, but Flint Police Chief Terence Green said he’s confident detectives will soon make an arrest. The investigations are being led by the Flint Major Case Unit, a multi-agency task force comprised of Flint and Michigan State Police detectives that handles many of the city’s most serious violent crimes. “Together, detectives from each agency work together to investigate violent crime in the city of Flint,” Vetter wrote in a statement. “MCU has successfully identified and arrested multiple homicide suspects in 2026 and we remain dedicated to holding violent criminals accountable.” Green said a fight preceded the shooting. MSP officials have said someone shot into a crowd, striking the two boys. Police are using all available investigative technology, including Flock cameras and other surveillance tools, in the investigation. Green said the department is working on a plan to target the area of James P. Cole Boulevard and Stewart Street, which has been a problem area in the past for large gatherings. The area is known for drag racing activity, Green said. “Please keep these young men’s families in your thoughts as they navigate this difficult time,” Michigan State Police officials wrote in a news release.
