Former Louisiana mayor Misty Roberts, 43, was found guilty in a DeRidder courtroom on Tuesday, 3 March, of havingsex with her teenage son's 16‑year‑old friendat a house party in 2024, and her lawyer now says the ex‑official feels 'very, very disappointed' rather than remorseful as she awaits sentencing that could see her jailed for up to 17 years.

After the guilty verdict, her lawyer Todd Clemons spoke to local media and made clear there would be no contrition from his client.

He said Roberts was 'very, very disappointed' by the verdict and added: 'At this particular point, there's no apology that I'm gonna give on her behalf.'

The question of who Misty Roberts is now cannot really be separated from what her own children told jurors about that night. The prosecution case leaned heavily on witnesses from inside her family.

Local outlets reported that Misty Roberts was in her second term as mayor of the small Louisiana town when allegations surfaced that she hosted the gathering for her son's birthday, provided alcohol to underage guests and then disappeared upstairs with his 16‑year‑old friend.

Her son later told Child Advocacy Center officials that at one point the pair were alone in an upstairs room.

'They were — just, like — they were having sex,' he said, according to the summary of his statement. He added that his mother later claimed she did not remember what had happened.

The teenage victim himself testified that he was drunk when he and Roberts engaged in sexual activity.

Roberts' younger daughter also gave evidence. She described walking in and seeing her mother and the boy 'on top of each other'. Her nephew told investigators he had seen his aunt and the teenager 'doing stuff' on a couch during the party, saying bluntly: 'From what I gathered, they were f---ing.'

Court records cited in the reporting state that Roberts' son and nephew allegedly recorded footage of her with the victim.
