Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is rejecting the Board of Peace’s plan for Gaza, underscoring growing differences over how and when to implement the proposed ceasefire framework. Netanyahu says Israel is discussing the plan with the U.S., but only some of the proposals are acceptable to his government. President Trump's proposal calls for Hamas to disarm in phases, with Israeli forces withdrawing as an international stabilization force and a new Palestinian police force take over security.
President Trump says the U.S. is now taking what he described as a "low-key" approach to negotiations, saying Iran's economy is under increasing strain. In a phone call to Axios, the president said the Iranian economy is in very bad shape and that Tehran no longer has enough money to pay its troops. Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance tells Fox News the U.S. is looking for long-term changes from Tehran. Vance says discussions have focused on safely restoring commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Before leaving on Saturday morning, Senators in a last minute sprint confirmed Todd Blanche as U.S. Attorney General. The razor thin vote narrowly overcoming Republican opposition in the final hour. On a bipartisan vote, senators also extended government funding through December 11th to prevent an election-time shutdown, but the House still must approve it. Senators also tried to vote on Voter ID requirements, but failed with all Democrats voting against it.
