After anIranian frigatewas sunk in the Indian Ocean by a US submarine torpedo, Congress leaderRahul Gandhiraised an alarm, saying "stormy seas lie ahead" for India. In a post on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi claimed that 40% of India's oil importss were under threat over the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, and once again raised the "compromised" charge against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His remarks came after Frigate Dena, a guest of India's Navy carrying almost 130 sailors, was struck in international waters by the US amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East region.
"The world has entered a volatile phase. Stormy seas lie ahead. India’s oil supplies are under threat, with more than 40% of our imports transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The situation is even worse for LPG and LNG. The conflict has reached our backyard, with an Iranian warship sunk in the Indian Ocean. Yet the Prime Minister has said nothing. At a moment like this, we need a steady hand at the wheel. Instead, India has a compromised PM who has surrendered our strategic autonomy," Rahul Gandhi said.
In his latest remarks, Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said that the United States will come to regret its action of destroying the Iranian vessel IRIS Dena with a torpedo hit in the Indian Ocean. In a post on X, Aragchi said, The US has perpetrated an atrocity at sea, 2,000 miles away from Iran's shores. Frigate Dena, a guest of India's Navy carrying almost 130 sailors, was struck in international waters without warning. Mark my words: The US will come to bitterly regret precedent it has set."
The warship had recently participated in the International Fleet Review in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and also taken part in the Milan 2026 multinational naval exercise. People familiar with the matter said that the attack took place outside India's territorial waters after the ship had finished its participation in the exercises. According to reports, at least 87 people were killed in the attack.
In retaliation, Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that a US oil tanker in the northern Persian Gulf was hit by a missile launched by Iranian forces. “The tanker was struck this morning in the northern Persian Gulf by forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and is currently on fire,” the news agency reported.
