GB Newspresenters Ellie Costello and Stephen Dixon alerted viewers to some breaking news this morning aboutUS President Donald Trumpas war continues in the Middle East. Costelle shared: "We got this news overnight that the Senate has backed President Trump's war powers inIran."

US political analyst Eric Ham, who was speaking via video link, replied: "This is actually the third time we have seen this resolution brought in the Senate to try tocurb President Trump's war powers. It was of course brought in last summer when the Presidentlaunched strikes on Iran's nuclear capabilities... Now we see it's been brought up again. It's failed all three times."

Dixon asked if this gives Trump a "pretty clear mandate to continue", to which the guest replied: "I wouldn't go that far. What the War Powers Act does is allow presidents to engage in these strikes, and then they have to let Congress know about them at least 48 hours after this.

He claimed Trump also has 60 to 90 days to produce a plan for what is happening, before claiming some Republicans have concerns about the President's strategy and exit plan for removing the US from the conflict.

In a humiliating blow to Trump, he said: "A most recent poll shows that only 27% of Americans actually support these strikes... If those gas prices continue to persist, I think we will see more pushback."

The guest also claimed Trump doesn't have the support of the American people let alone many of the US' most traditional allies.

He added: "It will be interesting to see what the American people decide to do as this war continues to play out."

Israeland the USA started striking Iran on Saturday, with the Islamic republic responding by launching counterattackes on Israel and the US-allied states in the Gulf.
